Google Meet Mobile Mic Problems: The Short Diagnostic

Four checks cover nearly everything: the OS app permission (iOS: Settings → Meet → Microphone; Android: App info → Permissions), the in-call mute state (the big mic button), the audio route (earbuds vs speaker vs a paired device in your bag), and — where your account tier includes it — the mobile Noise cancellation toggle under the in-call Settings.

Zoom / Teams / Meet current mobile apps, iOS & Android — checked against official vendor documentation July 28, 2026.

1. Clear the app permission

iOS: Settings → Meet (or Google Meet) → enable Microphone.

Android: long-press the app → App info → Permissions → Microphone → Allow (or 'while using the app').

Why this works: a denied first-launch prompt sticks permanently, and Meet can't re-ask — it just sits there silent. The permission check takes twenty seconds and resolves the largest share of dead-mic reports.

2. Check mute, route, and the cancellation toggle

  1. The mic button: tapped muted at join and forgotten is a classic.
  2. Audio route: earbuds in the case but still paired will happily eat your audio.
  3. Tier permitting, tap in-call ⋮ → Settings → Noise cancellation — the mobile toggle exists where the account tier includes the feature.
Why this works: Meet mobile actually carries the noise-cancellation toggle on qualifying accounts — one of the few real audio controls on any mobile meeting client. If it's absent, that's the account tier, not the phone.
What we tell every road warrior

Mic fine, world loud?

Stop shopping for a magic mobile filter — platform limits mean live cancellation lives on desktop. Krisp's 7-day full trial (no card) covers the hotel-desk and home-office calls where deals actually close.

3. The two-minute reset for the rest

  1. Leave and rejoin the meeting — routing renegotiates on entry.
  2. Toggle Bluetooth off/on if a headset connects for music but not for the call.
  3. Force-close and reopen the app after OS updates; audio stacks change underneath it.
Why this works: mobile audio stacks fail in half-attached states that look like broken mics; a rejoin or re-pair resets the chain faster than any settings archaeology.

Quick answers

Does Meet's noise cancellation exist on phones?

Yes, on qualifying Workspace tiers — in-call ⋮ → Settings → Noise cancellation. Free personal accounts commonly lack it on mobile exactly as on desktop.

Why does my mic work in calls but not Meet?

Per-app permissions — the phone's dialer and Meet hold separate microphone grants. Check Meet's own permission entry.
